"A survey of nineteenth century historic documents was initiated in 1973 by the Western Studies Center, Desert Research Institute, University of Nevada. The project was designed to examine infrequently utilized sources of information for data concerning Nevada minority groups. In the first section of this paper, a synthesis of some of these data, I describe the economic pursuits of a small Northern Paiute population which lived in Virginia City, Nevada. Alternate means of subsistence, which included agricultural wage labor, rservation life, and a modified aboriginal lifeway, are also briefly examined."
